| In 2001,
Midland Fair
Havens experienced full
occupancy in its housing facilities and initiated a waiting list
process. Referrals and requests for services have continued to
escalate since that time. Recognizing the desperate need for
additional housing and services, the
Midland Fair Havens Board of
Directors has initiated the "Building a Future for Families" Capital
Campaign. The board hopes to raise $2.9 million to provide: a
transitional living community that will serve up to 15 single
mothers and their children, expanded services to residential and
non-residential clients, and a permanent endowment fund.
The original
construction was scaled back slightly due to fund raising deadlines
but we have reserved an area along the north property line to
complete the entire project when the timing seems appropriate. The
outpouring of gifts and donations of materials, services, time,
talents, and money from individuals, churches, local companies,
organizations, and Foundations has been overwhelming.
In September, 2004,
Midland
Fair Havens
realized the first phase of its dream.
Thanks to grants, foundations and the generous donations from the
community, a total of $2.6 million has enabled the construction of
12 apartments, administration building, residential supervisor’s
facility and storage room. Phase II will include the addition of a
Children’s Development Center on campus; and to expand services to
residential and non-residential single parent families through
growing partnerships with community service agencies.
